Dräger Secures Significant Contract Win With Scotch Whisky Firm

Dräger, a global leader in the field of safety technology, has been awarded a six-figure contract by a major Scotch whisky distiller to supply fixed and portable gas detection equipment, training, hire, and ongoing service support.

The contract covers the supply of 65 multi-gas detectors, X-zone area monitors, bump test stations plus supporting accessories and test gas across multiple distillery sites across Scotland.

Each unit has been expertly configured to address the specific hazard of ethanol vapour, which is formed naturally during fermentation and distillation. The gas phase of ethanol can create a potentially explosive atmosphere in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces, particularly during maintenance and hot works activities.

A service agreement has been added to an existing fixed gas detection contract already supported by Dräger's field engineering team, consolidating both elements under a single maintenance and calibration programme.

Paul Davidson, UK MGM Marketing Manager, Dräger, said: “Distilleries present a specific and consistent set of atmospheric hazards which necessitates ensuring that the equipment configuration is right for each individual environment.

“Working with a major distiller to considerably enhance the safety of each of their Scottish sites represents a significant win for Dräger. We’re pleased to be supporting a globally recognised brand with sites across Scotland, particularly so as a substantial extension of a service relationship that was already in place.”

The contract will also provide on-site user training for key personnel across the estate, covering correct equipment use and site-specific safety factors, alongside a hire element used to support planned shutdown at any of the sites.

Additionally, it includes provision for confined space entry work across the estate, an area of particular importance in distillery environments where tank entry, vessel inspections and maintenance in enclosed areas can expose personnel to hazardous atmospheres before or during work. Dräger's equipment enables pre-entry atmospheric checks and continuous monitoring, ensuring personnel have a clear picture of conditions before entering a confined space.

Proximity to the distillery estate was another key factor in the ongoing partnership. With local engineers and responsive technical support in place, urgent requirements including repairs, calibrations and replacement equipment can be dealt with quickly, reducing potential downtime during planned maintenance periods or time-critical working operations.
