A new podcast launching this month will look at the legal, regulatory and human consequences of regulatory compliance.

Leading barristers, prosecuted company directors, health and safety lawyers, and industry experts will join the ‘More than Compliance’ podcast to share their real-world experiences from the sharp end of regulatory investigations and prosecutions.

The first episode goes live on 15 September 2026 and is available through Forbes Solicitors’ website and its YouTube Channel, Spotify and Apple podcasts. It features Lucy Wright, a defence barrister in the Benedict Blythe inquest, which led to the creation of Benedict’s Law to establish mandatory allergy safety standards in schools.

Benedict Blythe tragically died after having an anaphylactic reaction to cow’s milk at his primary school in December 2021. Lucy Wright, who specialises in criminal regulatory law at Crown Office Chambers, represented the school that Benedict attended at the time of his death and the local authority. In this episode, Lucy talks about the coronial process, and the resulting new legislation, including what this means for schools on a practical level, as well as wider changes in respect to allergy awareness and management in the workplace.

The first series of podcasts will run from September to December, with the schedule including:

-  15th September: Lucy Wright discusses her involvement in the Benedict Blythe inquest
- 6th October: Chartered Master Mariner Adrian Scales from Brookes Bell talks about the fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, particularly related to their storage and transportation, and the lack of awareness about how to manage lithium-ion battery fires when they occur
- 27th October: Managing Director of Clarke Health & Safety Consultants, Mark Clarke, draws on his experience working throughout the scaffolding industry to provide first-hand insight of safety issues when working at height 
- 17th November: Former company director Alistair Eagles shares his gruelling experience of being the man at the top during a fatal incident in the workplace and living through the subsequent HSE investigation and prosecution
- 8th December: To be Announced

Stephen Barnfield, a Regulatory and Professional Disciplinary Partner at Forbes Solicitors, hosts the new podcast.
